日本の梅雨時のうっとうしさを晴らしてくれる美しい花です。
西荻地域の民家前に植栽されている多彩な「ガクアジサイ（額紫陽花）」。日本原産の落葉樹。
花のように見えるのは実は萼が変化したもので装飾花と呼ばれています。実際の花は非常に小さくこの萼に囲まれた中に集まっています。装飾花が花の周囲を額縁のように囲んでいる姿から、この名がつけられたとのことです。
因みに、「ガクアジサイ」の花言葉は、例えば「謙虚」。
