Is this bird thinking where to dive to eat food?

A sedentary bird called little grebe living on a pond in Zenpukuji Park in NISHIOGI.

The bird is 26cm (about ten inches) in the total length and is characterized by the dark brown body in the summer and the reddish-brown neck. It has almost no tail feathers.

The bird is said to be good at diving to eat food such as small fish and aquatic insects.

潜水の名手

どこに潜って餌をとるか思案中なのでしょうか？

西荻の善福寺公園の上の池に住む留鳥の「カイツブリ」。

全長26㎝。体全体が夏期には黒褐色で、顔から頸にかけて赤褐色が目立ちます。また、尾羽がほぼありません。

潜りが得意で、小魚や水生昆虫などを食べるといわれます。
