They offered new grain to the gods and thanked them for their blessings.
On November 23rd, a national holiday called Labor Appreciation Day, “Shinkoku kansha-sai” or New Grain Thanksgiving was held at Shouan Inari Shrine, one of the What’s Nishiogi’s guide spots.
During this ritual, the chief priest offered new rice and sake, recited Norito or a ritual Shinto prayer, and then the priests offered Tamagushi or a sprig of a sacred tree one by one to thank gods and make a wish.
Furthermore, the fox at Inari Shrine is considered a messenger of the gods and exterminates rats that eat away at the crops.
新穀感謝祭
神様に新穀をお供えしその恵みに感謝しました。
11月23日の国民の祝日（「勤労感謝の日」）、われわれ西荻ガイドグループのガイド拠点の一つである松庵稲荷神社で行われた「新穀感謝祭」。
この神事では、宮司が新米と酒をお供えし、祝詞をあげ、そのあと神官たちが一人ずつ玉串をささげて感謝と願い事をしました。
なお、稲荷神社に鎮座するキツネは、神様のお使いで、農作物を食い荒らすネズミを退治してくれる存在ともいわれています。
