This vase called “nishiki akikusamon tsubo” was created by Sakaida Kakiemon the 14th (1934-2013) in the 1970’s. He was a potter representing craftspeople of Arita ware and recognized as a Living National Treasure as a holder of “iro-e porcelain” in 2001.
Kakiemon is characterized by colored paintings with various colors such as red, blue, green and yellow; they are painted on glazed milk-white base materials called “nigoside”, creating plenty of blank space. Porcelain with this Kakiemon-style is said to have been actively exported to Europe since the beginning of the 18th century and has fascinated European royalty and the aristocracy.

西荻の骨董店に展示されている柿右衛門。第14代酒井田柿右衛門（1934-2013）による1970年代の作品（「錦 秋草文 壺」）。
同氏は有田焼を代表する陶工で、2001年には「色絵磁器」の保持者として「人間国宝」に認定されました。
柿右衛門の特徴は、「濁し手（にごしで）」と称する乳白色の素地に余白を多くとり、赤・青・緑・黄などの鮮やかな彩色を施した、上絵付けの色絵にあるといわれています。そして、こうした柿右衛門様式の磁器は、18世紀初頭以降盛んにヨーロッパに輸出され、その王侯貴族を魅了したといわれています。
