GORGEOUS FLOWERS

The changes from bud to flowering are obvious at a glance.

“Shakunage” or Rhododendron planted in front of a private house in the southeastern part of NISHIOGI.

In Japanese, there is a word, Takane-no-Hana, which means something precious that you want but can’t easily obtain, and it is said that this word was coined because rhododendrons endemic to Japan were once only grown and available in high mountains.

華やかな花

蕾から開花までの変化が一目瞭然です。

西荻の南東地区の民家前に植栽されている「シャクナゲ（石楠花）」。

日本語に、欲しいけれどなかなか手に入らない貴重なもの、という意味の「高嶺の花」という言葉がありますが、日本固有種の「シャクナゲ」は昔、高山（こうざん）でしか得られなかったため、この言葉が生まれたと言われます。
