PRIDE OF THE ORIGINAL SPECIES

Along with “Edohigan”, this is the creator of “Someiyoshino”, a representative cherry blossom cultivar.

“Ooshimazakura”, one of the original species of cherry blossoms, planted in Momoi Harappa Park in the northeastern part of NISHIOGI.

The leaves of the cherry blossoms are thick and hairless, so they are said to be regarded as edible; they are salted and used to wrap “Sakuramochi” or pink-colored sweet rice cake.

原種の誇り

「エドヒガン」とともに桜の代表的園芸品種「ソメイヨシノ」の生みの親です。

西荻の北東地区の桃井原っぱ公園に植栽されている、桜の原種の一つ「オオシマザクラ（大島桜）」。

この桜の葉は厚く毛がないことから食用に適とされ、塩漬けして「桜餅」を包むのに用いられているそうです。
