Art prints found at an antique shop located in the northwest district of NISHIOGI.
These kinds of pictures have been printed from a small sheet of metal, stone or block of wood; wood block prints are predominant.
Ukiyo-e, or” pictures of the floating world”, is a genre of Japanese woodblock prints developed and became very popular among townspeople in the Edo Period (1603-1867).
Here are two original woodblock prints: pictures of a beautiful woman made by Toyokuni Ⅲ(1786-1864) in 1860 and a kabuki actor, Nakamura Shikan, made by the same ukiyo-e artist around 1815. Another picture is a reprint of a landscape named” Tokaido Gojusan-tsugi, Ishibe Mekawa- no-Sato”, painted by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), a representative and world-famous artist in this field.
It is said that the ukiyo-e art of drawing had a strong influence on such impressionists as Monet and van Gogh.
版画
西荻北地区の骨董店で見つけた版画。
版画とは、木版・銅板・石版などで刷った絵の総称で木版画が多い。
江戸時代に発達した民衆的な風俗画の一様式に浮世絵がある。これが、特に版画として町人の間で普及した。
これらの版画のうち、美人画（「けいせい角子（みずら）」）はオリジナル版で、万延元年(1860)、三代豊国（歌川国貞＜1786-1864＞、号を五渡亭とも称した）の作。また、歌舞伎役者（「中村芝翫」）も同じくオリジナル版で、文化後期(1815年頃)、五渡亭（ごとてい）国貞の作。今一つ、風景画の「東海道五十三次 石部 目川の里」」はリプリント版で、この分野の代表的な浮世絵師・歌川（安藤）広重(1797-1858)の作。
浮世絵の画法は、モネやゴッホなど印象派の画家たちに大きな影響を与えたといわれている。
