BEAUTY OF E-SHINO

The design, which appears to be of plum blossoms, and unique distorted shape are beautiful.

A “Shino tea bowl” (Gifu Prefecture) displayed in an antique store (“Jikoh”) in the northwestern part of NISHIOGI. It is a work from the late Showa period(1980s).

“Shino” is said to be the first pottery in Japan, characterized by a white base with decorative patterns and warped, deformed shapes.

The storekeeper commented,” Shino is sturdy, so it’s perfect for holding it firmly with both hands while drinking tea.”

絵志野の美

梅と思しき絵文様や歪みのある独特の造形が美しいです。

西荻北西地区の骨董店(「慈光」)に展示されている、「志野茶碗」（岐阜県）。昭和後期の作品。

「志野」は、白い地肌に絵文様を入れ、また歪みをつけて変形にするといった特徴を持つ日本初の陶器だそうです。

店長の言「志野は丈夫なので、ガシッと両手で持って喫茶するのに好適です。」
