A collaborative exhibition with mini bonsai, “The 31st Tenarai-juku: Friends of the Shibata Calligraphy Class” (2025.3.27-3.30) held in Ikkyoan, a nationally registered tangible cultural property located in the residential area in the southern part of NISHIOGI.
Take this kanji inscription titled “ Warai or laugh (笑) “, for example. According to the exhibitor, she was inspired by the image of a child laughing in a game called “ ken, ken, pa” or hopscotch, which was popular among children until around 1960s. A little ahead of the left foot, a traditional Japanese footwear “geta” or wooden clog is engraved.
思い入れの刻字
遊び心に満ちた作品も展示されていました。
西荻南地区住宅地にある、国の登録有形文化財・一欅庵で開催された、ミニ盆栽とのコラボ展覧会「第31回 てならい塾 柴田書道教室の仲間たち」（2025.3.27-3.30）。
例えばこの漢字の「笑（わらい）」と題する刻字。出品者によれば、昭和40年代頃まで人気のあった「けんけんぱ」という子どもの遊びで、子どもが笑っている姿をイメージしたとのこと。左足の少し先には、日本の伝統的な履物の「ゲタ」が刻まれています。
