WARMHEARTEDNESS OF NISHIOGIITE

Kindness of NISHIOGIITE goes to various objects such as a memorial to cats and “Jizo” or guardian deities of children; the citizens put hoods and bibs on them to pray for the souls of the dead or hope that children grow up in good health.

The color red is believed to protect people against evil. The light blue is thought to express refreshment, healing, hope, ideal and so forth.

NISHIOGI’s gentle residents secretly change these clothes from time to time.

西荻びとの優しさ

西荻には子育ての家庭やペットを愛する家庭が多い。その優しい心遣いが、例えば観泉寺境内にある猫の供養碑や子どもの無事成長を願う地区内のお地蔵さんに、赤色や水色などの帽子・頭巾や首飾り・涎掛けを着せる形で注がれている。

「赤」という色は、古来、「魔除け」の意味があると信じられており、また「水色」は、爽やかさ、癒し、希望、理想等の意味があるとされる。

猫や子どもを思う気持ちの温かい人々が、時々、これらの衣装を着替えさせている。
