BURSTING FLOWERS

“Ootsurubo” (literally big vine ear) or Scilla peruviana planted by the roadside next to a farm in NISHIOGI.

They say that the flowers originated in the Southern Europe and North Africa and are regarded as ornamental perennials; they were brought to Japan in the late 19th century.

The plant is sturdy enough to grow up to 45cm without special care.

A lot of star-shaped bluish-purple flowers give the impression that fireworks burst.

In the language of the flower, they signify, for example, patience and abiding love.

炸裂する花

西荻南地区の農園に接する道路の路傍に咲く「シラー・ペルビアナ」（和名：オオツルボ＜大蔓穂＞）。

南欧および北アフリカ原産の観賞用多年草で、明治時代の中期に日本に渡来した。

強健な品種で、植えっぱなしでも増えるという。草丈は30～45cm。

初夏に星形の青紫の花を多数咲かせる。花の形はあたかも花火が炸裂したような印象を与える。

花言葉はいろいろあるが、例えば「辛抱強さ」、「変わらぬ愛」など。
