Tsugaru-shamisen

Exclamations that an encouraged police detective gave a few times astonished the audience.

The collaborated narration event with a tsugaru-shamisen held at Ikkyoan, a national registered tangible cultural property, located in NISHIOGI.

The narration referred to a story called “kannazuki (October)” or no deity month in the original Japanese calendar when all of Japan’s gods and spirits are said to assemble at Izumo Taisha, Shimane Prefecture. The story was derived from a collection of historical short stories called “genshoku Edo goyomi” written by a well-known novelist, Miyabe Miyuki.

The narrator recited the earnest conflict between a thief who wanted to save his sickly daughter by stealing a small amount of money in the month and a young police detective who wanted to capture the unidentified thief. In addition to a prelude, the shamisen player inserted interludes during pauses in the parts of the narration followed by a postlude.
