One-day flowers called cotton roses (suifuyo or literally drunken confederate roses in Japanese) found in Zenpukuji Park in NISHIOGI.
The flowers are double-petaled, and their colors change in a day; they are pure white in the morning and gradually turns pink and then red in the afternoon.
The state of change in petal colors into red was compared to a drunk, which led to the naming with a Chinese character,酔.
It is said that the color changes in response to the function of pigment called anthocyanin, and its biosynthesis rapidly proceeds when the temperature rises to 25℃ or over.
変色する花
西荻の善福寺公園で見つけた一日花（和名「スイフヨウ＜酔芙容＞」）。
八重咲きで花の色が一日で変化する。朝咲き始めは純白、時間が経つにつれて次第にピンクとなり夕方には赤に変わる。
この赤色に変化するさまを「酔って赤くなる」ことになぞらえて「酔」の漢字を冠して名付けられた。
花色の変化はアントシアニンという色素の働きによるもので、その生合成が、温度が25度以上になると急速に進むためという。
純白から時間の経過とともに濃いピンクに変わる。
