Chuu-furisode or a formal kimono for a young unmarried woman with long flowing sleeves.
Sleeve length varies from full length(105cm) through medium one (chuu-furisode,90cm) to short one(75cm).
This kimono is mainly worn at a coming-of- age ceremony or an invited wedding ceremony.
The method of tying an obi is called “fukura-suzume” or the plump sparrow bow which is patterned after a fat small sparrow spreading its wings fully; this bow is regarded as the highest formality adopted by high-ranking people such as the imperial families.
