FLARING FLOWERS

“Kingyoso” (literally goldfish grass) or snapdragons planted in the flower bed of a welfare facility in NISHIOGI.

They say that the Japanese name comes from the flower shape representing goldfish, whereas its English name, likening the mouth of the dragon. 

The flowers originated in the Mediterranean coastal area and are regarded as ornamental perennials. They have a variety of colors such as white, red and pink.

In the language of flowers, “kingyoso” signify, for example, graciousness and elegance.

燃え立つ花

西荻の福祉施設前の花壇で見つけた「キンギョソウ（英名スナップドラゴン）」。

花姿がまるで金魚のように見えることから、こう呼ばれる。一方、英名は花の形を竜の口に見立てたものという。

地中海沿岸が原産の観賞用多年草で、花の色は白、赤、ピンクなど多彩。

この花の花言葉はいろいろあるが、例えば「上品さ」「優雅さ」など。
