Blue bugles, or seiyou-juni-hitoe (literally Western twelve-layered kimono), found in the garden of a private house in NISHIOGI.
The name comes from the shape of the double-flowered petals likened to juni-hitoe.
Juni-hitoe is formal attire of court ladies in the Heian period (794-1185). They wore unlined kimono one over the other, taking great care for people to be able to notice the sleeve ends overlapped.
The flowers originated in Europe and are regarded as ornamental perennials; they grow up to 30cm. The petals are labiate and their colors are bluish purple, pink, white and so forth.
In the language of flowers, they signify, for example, strong friendship and relaxed home.
友情を強める花
西荻の民家の庭先に咲くアジュガ（和名：セイヨウジュウニヒトエ＜西洋十二単＞）。
花が重なって咲くさまを「十二単（じゅうにひとえ）」に見立てたもの。
十二単とは、平安時代の女官の正装。単衣の上に同色の五衣（いつつぎぬ）などを重ね着し、袖が重なって見えるのでこの名前がある。
欧州原産の多年草で、高さは30cmくらいまで伸びる。花は唇形、色は青紫、ピンク、白など。
花言葉は「強い友情」「心休まる家庭」など。
