The solo exhibition called Kewai by a sumi-e painter, Ms. Watabe Yuka, held at the Japanese culture store near the north exit of NISHIOGIKUBO station.
Kewai is written in kanji character,気配, and pronounced “kewai” in Japanese in the old days, the sound of which is felt good; it is pronounced “kehai” now, and it means a sign of something or a hint.
What kind of sign do these Indian-ink paintings drawn on washi or traditional Japanese paper called Hosokawa washi show? Signs of four seasons peculiar to Japan?
The artist said, “I am glad that the storekeeper accepted my wishes to hang my works with other artists’ works on the wall at the stone washbasin, because I love the atmosphere of the place associated with the tea ceremony.”
「けわい」展
JR西荻窪駅北口近くの、日本文化を繋ぐ店で開催された個展（「けわい～気配～」＜渡部ゆか個展＞）。
「けわい」とは、漢字で書けば「気配」、現在の読み方は「けはい」だが昔の読み方では「けわい」で、音の感じがよいとする。
和紙（細川紙）に描かれたこれら墨絵作品は、何の「気配」を表現しているのか。日本の四季か。
墨絵を得意とする同画家言「このお店の雰囲気に“ひとめぼれ”し、奥の蹲（つくばい）に墨絵を、他の作家さんの作品とともに展示していただくという希望が叶い、とても嬉しいです。」
