The flowering trees originated in China and have been cultivated in the Japanese garden for years.
The buds are covered with long fluffy hairs, and the flowers are about 10cm in diameter.
In the language of flowers, white magnolias signify elegant words, especially nobility.
An elderly lady passing by commented, “The characteristics of these flowering trees are fluffy buds and bent twigs at a sharp angle. You shouldn’t miss an opportunity to enjoy their full bloom which lasts only for a few days.”
気高き花
西荻の生産緑地で観察した、春を代表する花の一つ「ハクモクレン（白木蘭）」。
中国原産で、古くから庭園の花木として栽培されている。新芽は長い毛におおわれ、ふわふわしている。花の大きさは直径10㎝程度。
この花の花言葉は非常に多いが、代表的なのは「気高さ」。
通りがかりの年配婦人曰く「このふわふわした綿毛のような新芽と、枝がキュッキュッと直線的に曲がっているのが特徴ですね。気づきが遅いと花はすぐ散ってしまいますよ」。
