The special exhibition of engraved craftwork held at Ikkyoan, a national registered tangible cultural property, located in NISHIOGI. The theme of the exhibition was “prayer.”
Main materials for engraving words are zelkovas, oaks and camphor trees.
This work,「磊磊」（rai- rai, or the state of many stones piled up）, for example, was made using the camphor tree; two pieces of lumber were diagonally stuck together on purpose, and the engraved word was painted with Chinese ink. The word means avoiding fuss about things.
The organizer sent the message, “Let’s pray to everyone!”
刻字に込められた祈り
西荻南地区住宅地にある、国の登録有形文化財・一欅庵で開催された展示会（「てならい塾展」。主として刻字。テーマは「祈り」）。
刻字とは、主にケヤキ、ナラ、クスノキなどの木材に文字を美的に刻したもの。例えばこの「磊磊（らいらい）」は、クスノキ2枚をあえて斜めに張り付けて刻字し、墨と絵具で装飾した作品。その意味は、物事にこだわらないさま、ということ。
