Wishing for the healthy and strong growth of boys!
In Japan, May 5th is the day of Boys’ Festival. This day now is designated a national holiday, Children’s Day, to pray for the happiness of all children.
On this day, families having boys in particular display samurai dolls, hoist koinobori or carp-shaped streamers, eat red rice or sticky rice boiled with adzuki beans in a rice bowl and have kashiwamochi or a rice cake wrapped in an oak leaf; it contains sweet adzuki paste or miso paste.
This miniature samurai doll with the height of 11cm was made using the method of kimekomi in the Taisho period (1912-1926); it is a wooden doll with Japanese costumes made from cloth tucked into grooves in the wood.
西荻の端午の節句2022
男の子が強く元気に成長するよう祈りましょう！
5月5日は端午の節句。もともとは男の子が強く元気に成長することを願って指定された5節句の一つだが、現在ではすべての子供の幸福を願って祝う「国民の祝日（こどもの日）」となっている。
この日には、特に男の子のいる家庭では、武者人形を飾り、鯉のぼりを掲げ、子供茶碗に盛った赤飯や柏餅を食べたりする。
このミニチュアの武者人形は、高さ11㎝、木目込みすなわち木材に彫刻して布地を押し絵にしたもので、大正時代の作品です。
