“Utsubokazura” or Nepenthes planted in the practice field of Tokyo Nohgei Agricultural High School in the northern part of NISHIOGI.
The plant is a climbing insectivorous one originated in Southeast Asia and Australia. The length of the vine varies and can reach 15m.
The objects are said to be grown and deformed leaves called insectivorous sacs. These sacs would be regarded as clever devices in that once insects fall into them, the small creatures are digested by digestive juice and absorbed as nutrients.

この袋状のものは、葉が成長して変形した「捕虫嚢」で、この中に落ち込んだ昆虫などを消化液で消化し養分にするという、落とし穴式の巧みなしかけといえましょう。
