What if you take these traditional crafts when you go out putting on a kimono or getting dressed today?

Handmade sensu or Japanese folding fans displayed in the Japanese culture store near the north exit of NISHIOGIKUBO Station.

A folding fan was originally invented in Japan and is said to have introduced through China to Europe around the 16th century.

Sensu are used not only for cooling but also for ceremonies, dancing, and cultural events such as noh, kabuki and comic storytelling called rakugo,.

The storekeeper commented, “These folding fans, created by a fabric painter called Fuuka in NISHIOGI, are made of silk and bamboo ribs. Various plants are painted on silk and dyed with waterproofing. I think these fans are easy to coordinate various attire.”
