How cute these dolls with bobbed hair are!
Creative kokeshi dolls displayed in an antique store located in the northwestern part of NISHIOGI, which is one of our group’s guide spots.
Kokeshi are handcrafted wooden dolls with cylindrical shaped bodies, round heads and no limbs. They were originally made as children’s toys at hot-spring spa resorts in the Tohoku region in the early 19th century. Aside from the traditional kokeshi, a new type of doll based on free ideas such as these sober kokeshi has been developing for souvenirs at tourist destinations nationwide.
創作こけし
なんとかわいらしいおかっぱ頭のこけしでしょう！
われわれガイドグループのガイド拠点の一つである西荻北西地区の骨董店に展示されている「創作こけし」。
こけしとは、木製の人形で、円筒形の胴体に丸い頭が乗り、手足が通常ありません。もともと江戸時代後期、こどものおもちゃとして東北地方の温泉地で作られていたが、こうした伝統的なこけしとは別に、自由な発想により,これらの展示品のような渋いこけしも「創作こけし」として全国の観光地でお土産用に作られるようになってきています。
