What do these closely bloomed flowers push out long filaments for?
“Nikuiro-shukusha” or Ginger lily planted in a farm in the southern part of NISHIOGI.
The plant is a perennial and originated in India. The height is 1-2m. It is said to have been introduced to Japan in the late 1920s.
The flowers have unique shapes in that the long filaments fuse to the stigmas at the tips of the anthers and those stigmas jut out short.
The plant is a member of the ginger family but these flowers do not smell very strong.
The flower language of Ginger lily is, for example, faint love.
集まる花
これらの密集した花は何のために長い花糸を突き出しているのでしょう？
西荻南地区の農園に植栽されている「ニクイロシュクシャ（肉色縮砂）」。
インド原産の多年草で、草丈は1－2ｍ。日本には昭和初期に渡来したといわれる。
長く伸びるおしべの葯の先端から、めしべの柱頭が短く突き出しているのがユニークです。ショウガ科の植物とのことですが、花はさほど強い香りはしません。
花言葉は、例えば、淡い恋心。
