Let’s wish for growth and happiness for girls!

In Japan, March 3rd is the day called the Dolls’ Festival or Girls’ Festival. Families with girls celebrate the day to wish their young daughters for growth and happiness, displaying a set of hina dolls.

The way of displaying only a pair of dolls is called shinnou-kazari or literally prince decoration, which shows the Emperor and the Empress. This craftwork was made in the late 1970s by a famous doll craftsperson, Heian Keiho, a prize winner of the Medal with Yellow Ribbon.

The Imperial palace dolls-like hina ones on the four-tiered stand were made of wood by one-knife carving in the Taisho period (1912-1926).
