It is not a lake ball, but a “kokedama” or a moss ball.

This is a plant grown in a ball of soil covered in moss, held together with thread. This plant is a foliage one called “Han-iri-iwagarami” or Schizophragma hydrangeoides ‘Variegata’.

It is said that the moss ball is popular among people in that it’s easy to make compared with bonsai. So, how about beginning to make some to decorate the interior of your home right away?

これは「マリモ（毬藻）」ではありません。「コケダマ（苔玉）」と呼ばれます。

「コケダマ」とは、植物の根を土で包んで玉状にし、その周りに苔を貼り、この苔がはがれないように糸などで巻いて固定したものです。この植物は、「斑入りイワガラミ」と称する観葉植物です。

盆栽に比較して簡単に作ることができるので人気ありといわれています。早速、インテリアの装飾品に加えてはいかがでしょうか。
