What's
NISHIOGI

DSC_0598.JPG

NISHIOGI has had more snow than had been forecast early in the New Year, although it’s not a region with heavy snowfalls. However, children seemed to have pleased with the conditions.

One of the six Douji or servant boy statues carved by sculptor Yabuuchi Satoshi, two Sumo-Douji wrestlers, are glaring at a snowman rather than the opponent.

Sumo is Japan’s national sport, and six tournaments are held every year; the first one in Tokyo in January, starting on the ninth this year.

People hope to see wrestlers’ exciting bouts and get reassurance to securely live in the difficult covid-19 situation.
