Let’s celebrate Tanabata or the Star Festival on July 7th!

The festival is said to be a combination of Chinese tradition with faith peculiar to Japan; it celebrates the meeting, only once a year, of two “lovers”, Kengyu (the star Altair) and Shokujo (Vega), who are usually separated by the Milky Way.
On this day, people write their wishes on strips of colored paper and hang them on the leafy bamboo branches.
Reflecting severe international situation, desires for the earliest calm are written; for example,” May the world be with constant smiles!”
西荻の七夕2022
7月7日の七夕の日をお祝いしましょう！
善福寺公園内の池畔に飾られた七夕飾りです。
七夕は、中国伝来の風習と、日本固有の信仰が結合したものといわれ、天の川の両岸にある牽牛星と織女星が、年に一度出合うことを祝うお祭りです。
人々はこの日、願いごとを色とりどりの短冊に書き笹の枝に結びます。今年は、厳しい国際情勢を映してか、早期平穏化の願い、例えば「笑顔のたえない世界でありますように」などが書かれています。
