Here are wares baked to the highest degree injecting traditional Japanese sense of beauty in firing.
A sake drinking set and Sencha utensils displayed in an antique store in NISHIOGI. They were made in 1960’s in Arita, Saga Prefecture.
The storekeeper commented, “These wares are Seihakuji or pale blue pottery covered with a clear glaze containing a small amount of iron. They are characterized by delicate shadows, which are expressions of the Japanese sense of beauty as claimed by a great writer, Tanizaki Junichiro, in his essay titled In Praise of Shadows.”

日本古来の美意識を注ぎ込み、最高度に焼成した器です。
西荻北地区の骨董店に展示されている青白磁の酒器と煎茶道具。1960年代の有田焼です。
店主のコメント「これらの器は白磁と青磁の中間の青白磁で、微量の鉄分の入った透明の釉薬が使われています。微妙な陰影は、まさに日本的な特徴で、かの文豪・谷崎潤一郎も随筆『陰翳礼讃』で、陰影こそが日本の美意識の特徴だと主張しています。」
