CONSPICUOUS WHITE LEAVES ON WATERSIDE

The leaves near the small flowers have turned white.

“Hangeshou” or Chinese lizard’s tail grow wild on the waterside of the “Osonoi River Hydrophilic Facility” in Zenpukuji Park in NISHIOGI. The herb is a perennial and originated in Japan, China and the Philippines. The height is 50-100cm.

It is said that when the flowers bloom around the summer solstice, a few leaves near the flowers turn from green to white so that they attract insects.

Incidentally, the flower language of “Hangeshou” is, for example, inner passion. 

水辺で目立つ白い葉

小さな花の近くの葉が白くなりました。

西荻の善福寺公園内にある「遅野井川親水施設」の水辺に自生している「ハンゲショウ（半夏生）」。日本・中国・フィリピン原産の多年草。草丈は50～100㎝。

夏至のころ花が咲くとその近くの葉が数枚緑色から白く変色するが、これは昆虫を呼び寄せるためといわれています。

因みに、「ハンゲショウ」の花言葉は、例えば、「内に秘めた情熱」。
