DANCING FLOWERS

The flowers look like hula dancers are dancing.

“Touwata” or milkweed planted in front of the entrance of a private home in the southwestern part of NISHIOGI.

The plants are perennials originated in South America. The height is 30-150 cm. They are said to have been brought to Japan in 1842. 

The name is said to come from the fact that the seeds have long silky hairs.

Incidentally, the flower language of “Touwata” is, for example,” Let me go”. 

踊る花

フラダンサーが踊っているような花姿です。

西荻の南西地区にある民家の玄関前に植栽されている「トウワタ（唐綿）」。

南アメリカ原産の多年草。高さは30-150cm。 日本には天保13年（1842）に渡来したとされる。

この名は、種子に長い絹状の毛があることに由来するそうです。

因みに、「トウワタ」の花言葉は、例えば、「私を行かせて」。
