Here are strong protectors of the environment.
“Kyouchikutou” or Oleander planted in a flower garden of a private home in the southeastern part of NISHIOGI.
The plants originated in India and are small evergreen trees. The height is 3-4m. It is said that the trees were brought to Japan in the 1710s.
They are widely cultivated as street trees because they are resistant to air pollution and have a soundproofing effect. On the other hand, the trees are said to be totally poisonous, so care must be taken when handling them.
Incidentally, the flower language of “Kyouchikutou” is, for example, beware.
大気汚染に強い花木
環境保護の強い味方です。
西荻の南東地区の民家の花壇に植栽されている「キョウチクトウ（夾竹桃）」。
インド原産の常緑小高木で樹高は3～4ｍ。江戸時代中期に日本に渡来したといわれる。
大気汚染に強く防音効果もあるので街路樹などに広く栽培される。一方で全体に有毒なので扱いには注意が必要とのことです。
因みに、「キョウチクトウ」の花言葉は、「用心」など。
