People in NISHIOGIKUBO enjoyed shopping while admiring the fresh greenery.
A fresh green open-air market was held in a farm facing Itsukaichi-kaido in NISHIOGI on May 14, 2023. A variety of goods such as traditional Japanese vegetables, baked confectionery, and beverages were ready for sale in tents.
Take these “Okahijiki” or literally land alga, for example. The exhibitor commented,” It is said that the seeds of the alga were collected on the beach in the Shonai region in the Edo period (1603-1867) and transported up the Mogami River by boat to the wharf in Sunazuka Village (now Nanyo City, Yamagata Prefecture) where those seeds were planted. Okahijiki are best eaten boiled and seasoned with mustard soy sauce or ginger soy sauce.”
旬を愛でる
西荻窪の人たちは新緑を愛でながらお買い物を楽しみました。
５月１４日、西荻の五日市街道に面した農園で開催された新緑の青空市。日本の伝統野菜、焼き菓子、飲み物など多様な品物がテント内に並べられていました。
例えば、この「おかひじき」。展示販売店主曰く「これは江戸時代、庄内地方の浜で採れた種が船で最上川を上り、船着き場の砂塚村（現山形県南陽市）で植えられたと言われています。ゆでてカラシ醬油やショウガ醤油で味わうお浸しが最高です。」
