Shall we wish for the strong growth of children for Children’s Day on May 5?
A samurai helmet and a warrior doll exhibited in the community space (NISHIOGI Minami) near the south exit of NISHIOGIKUBO Station.
May 5 is currently a national holiday to celebrate the growth and health of all children, but it has long been the celebratory day for boys.
It is said that “Kuwagata” or the hoe-shaped helmet crest was originally made to protect the head of warriors, but gradually used as a symbol of high-ranking samurai. The crest is just like that of the Angels Kabuto, which is put on top of the head of Ohtani Shohei or other players of Major League Baseball team, Los Angeles Angels, whenever they hit home runs.

5月5日の「こどもの日」 を間近に控え、子供たちの力強い成長を願いませんか？
西荻窪駅南口近くのコミュニティスペース「西荻みなみ」に展示されている、兜および武者人形。
この日は、現在では、すべての子供の成長と健康を祝うための祝日ですが、かつては長く男の子の日とされていました。
この兜の前立ての「鍬形（くわがた）」は、当初は頭部を守るためのものであったが、次第に身分の高い侍のシンボルとして使われるようになったといわれます。そういえば、米大リーグのロサンゼルス・エンゼルスの大谷翔平選手らがホームランを打つたびにかぶせられる「エンゼルス兜」のそれとそっくりです。
