PROPITIOUS TREE

Lots of densely grown small red fruits would catch your eye.

“Kuroganemochi” or Kurogane holly planted in a park in the southwestern part of NISHIOGI.

The tree is an evergreen tall one originated in East Asia and grows up to 10-15m.

The name, kurogane, is said to come from the fact that its leaf stalks and branch tips look blackish.

The tree has become popular as a propitious one, because the name can be associated with the expression, “the effortless rich.”

縁起の良い木

ぎっしりついた小さな赤い実が目を引きます。

西荻南西地区の公園に植栽されている「クロガネモチ（黒鉄黐）」。東アジア原産で、樹高10～15ｍの常緑中高木。

葉柄や枝先が、黒みがかった色をしているためクロガネ（黒鉄）という名前がついたといわれます。「苦労のない金持ち」を連想させるとして縁起木として人気があるようです。
