“Pentasu” or Pentas planted in the flower bed in the Sakanoue-no keyaki koen, one of our guide group’s guide spots in NISHIOGI.
The plants are perennial herbs originated in tropical Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The height is 20-50 cm.
Small, star-shaped flowers bloom densely at the tips of the stems, resembling opened umbrellas.
The name “Pentas” is said to come from the Greek word “pente”, which means “five.”
Incidentally, the flower language of “Pentas” is, for example, “Hope comes true” or “Wish.”

われわれガイドグループのガイド拠点の一つ、「坂の上のけやき公園」の花壇に植栽されている「ペンタス」。
熱帯アフリカないしアラビア半島原産の多年草。高さは20-50cm。
茎の先に星形の小さな花が密に咲き、傘をさしたような形になっています。「ペンタス」という名前は、ギリシャ語の「５」を意味する「ペンテ」からきているそうです。
因みに、「ペンタス」の花言葉は、例えば、「希望が叶う」「願い事」など。
