The plaque depicting this year’s zodiac sign, the dragon, was welcoming visitors.
The exhibition of engraved craftwork titled “The 30th Tenarai-juku Exhibition” (2024.3.28-3.31) held in Ikkyoan, a national registered tangible cultural property, located in the residential area in the southern part of NISHIOGI.
Engraving is the aesthetic carving of characters into wood, and the material used this time is Katsura tree, which is said to be the easiest to engrave without any errors and to have beautiful annual rings.
The organizer commented,” I would like everyone to appreciate these works freely. For example, regarding the kanji,「女」,meaning ‘ woman’, a male visitor in his 40s asked me if he could interpret the character as a bird.”
刻字の美
本年の干支「龍」の額が見学者をお迎えしていました。
西荻南地区住宅地にある、国の登録有形文化財・一欅庵で開催された[第30回 てならい塾展」（2024.3.28-3.31）。
刻字とは、木材に文字を美的に刻したもので、今回の材は、最も狂いなしに彫りやすく、しかも年輪も美しい「カツラ（桂）」とのこと。
主催者の言「皆さまには自由にご鑑賞いただきたいです。例えばこの「女」という漢字について、ある40歳代の男性見学者は、“これは鳥と解していいですか？”と仰いました。」
