It is believed to have been used as an ornament for auspicious occasions such as New Year’s Day or at celebratory banquets.
A circular platter with old Imari sometsuke or blue and white porcelain displayed in an antique store (“Jikoh”) in the northwestern part of NISHIOGI. It is a work from the late Edo period.
It is believed to have been made in homage to the Chinese Ming Dynasty sometsuke porcelain, known as the “king of sometsuke porcelain.” The inside is decorated with numerous flying cranes, which are said to be symbols of longevity, painted in beautiful indigo.
The storekeeper commented,” The center of this platter is raised. It seems that they put a lot of thought into making sure the soup doesn’t accumulate at the bottom.”
染付の美
正月などおめでたい時の飾りとかお祝いの宴席の際に使われたものとみられます。
西荻北西地区の骨董店(「慈光」)に展示されている、古伊万里の染付「大皿」。江戸時代後期の作品。
“磁器の染付の王様”と呼ばれた中国・明の時代の染付に敬意を表して作製されたものとみられます。見込みには、長寿の象徴といわれる、飛翔する鶴が、美しい藍色で数多く描かれています。
店主の言「この大皿の真ん中がポコッと盛り上がっています。汁物が底にたまらないように、との配慮が感じられます。」
