FLOWERS BLOOMING LIKE WAVES

These are beautiful flowers originated in Japan and have been loved since the Manyo era.

“Fuji” or Wisteria planted in front of a private house in the southwestern part of NISHIOGI. The plant is a deciduous climbing tree native to Japan.

The flowers are sometimes referred to as “Fujinami” or literally wisteria waves because many small pale purple flowers hang down and sway like waves in the wind. It is said that there are 26 poems about “Fuji” including this expression in an ancient document “Manyosyu.”

波のように咲く花

古く万葉の時代から愛されてきた日本生まれの美しい花です。

西荻の南西地区の民家前に植栽されている「フジ（藤）」。日本固有のつる性の落葉樹です。

淡紫色の小さな花がたくさん垂れ下がり、風で波のように揺れ動くことから「ふじなみ（藤波）」と表現されることもある。「万葉集」には、その表現を含めて「フジ」を詠んだ歌が26首あると言われます。
