FLOWERS THAT SYMBOLIZE THE EQUINOX

The clusters of bright red flowers herald the arrival of autumn.

“Higanbana”, also known as “Manjushage” (red spider lilies) planted on the banks of the Upper Pond of Zenpukuji Park in NISHIOGI.

There is a Japanese idiom that goes, “The heat and cold will last until the equinox.” When you see these flowers blooming during the equinox period (this year, September 19th to 25th), you hope that the lingering heat of summer will subside. In fact, we have begun to feel the cool autumn breeze in NISHIOGI for the past few days.  

彼岸を象徴する花

群生した真っ赤な花が秋の訪れを告げています。

西荻の善福寺公園・上の池の池畔に植栽されている「ヒガンバナ（彼岸花。別名：曼珠沙華）」。

日本語の慣用句に「暑さ寒さも彼岸まで」という句があります。お彼岸の時期（本年は、9月19日～25日）に咲くこの花を見ると、残暑も収まる頃かと期待しますが、現に西荻でも、この一両日、涼しい秋風を感じるようになりました。
