FLOWERS WITH CONSPICUOUS SPOTTED PATTERNS

The flowers are a unique beauty that decorates late autumn.

“Hototogisu” or Japanese toad lily planted in Miyamae Park in the southeastern part in NISHIOGI.

It’s a perennial plant endemic to Japan, with a height of 40-80cm.

The flower’s purple spots are said to have been named after the pattern on the chest of the wild bird, lesser cuckoo.

Incidentally, the flower language of “hototogisu” is, for example, “eternal youth.”

斑点模様が目立つ花

晩秋を飾る独特な美しさです。

西荻の南東地区の宮前公園に植栽されている「ホトトギス（杜鵑草）」。

日本の特産種の多年草で、草丈は40～80cm.

花の紫色の斑点が、野鳥のホトトギスの胸の模様に似ていることから名付けられたとのことです。

因みに、「ホトトギス」の花言葉は、例えば「永遠の若さ」。
