There were many humorous ceramics on display, incorporating parakeets and capybaras, with the motif of Edo period reading books.
A solo exhibition titled “Komatsuka Nae Solo Exhibition ‘Kaiketsu Choraiya’” held in a gallery located along the Kyu-fudo Street south of JR NISHIOGIKUBO Station (2024.11.29-12.1).
Take this work called “Orochimaru”, for example. It’s a parakeet version of a fictional ninja that appears in the late Edo period reading book “ Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari” , from which the word “Sansukumi” or three-way deadlock originated. He is said to be the nemesis of the main character, the ninja Jiraiya.
On the other hand, the work entitled “Hattori Kapizo” seems to be a parody of Hattori Hanzo, a ninja captain with ties to the NISHIOGI area in the Edo period, transformed into a capybara.
江戸時代にタイムスリップ
江戸時代の読本をモチーフに、インコやカピバラを絡めたユーモラスな陶芸品が数多く展示されていました。
JR西荻窪駅南の旧府道沿いにあるギャラリー（「ギャラリー西荻43」）で開催された個展（こまつか苗陶個展 「快傑 鳥来也＜かいけつ ちょらいや＞）（2024.11.29～12.1）。
例えばこの「大蛇丸（おろちまる）」と称する作品。「３すくみ」の由来となった江戸時代後期の読本（「児雷也豪傑譚」＜じらいや ごうけつものがたり＞）に登場する架空の忍者をインコ変換したもので、主人公の忍者・児雷也の宿敵とのこと。
一方、「服部カピ蔵」と銘打った作品は、江戸時代の西荻地域にも縁のある忍者の隊長・服部半蔵をもじってカピバラ変換したもののようです。
