BEAUTY OF WHITE SATSUMA

Is it the scene of a general of samurai’s solemn marching ceremony? 

A medium-sized “Satsuma ware” plate displayed in an antique store (“Jikoh”) in the northwestern part of NISHIOGI. It is a work from the Meiji period.

The salesperson commented,” Judging from the hoe-shaped crest on the helmet, the warrior in the middle appears to be a Kamakura samurai. This plate is characterized by the fact that fine grains on its inside look yellowish.”

西荻北西地区の骨董店(「慈光」)に展示されている、「薩摩焼」の中皿。明治時代の作品。

店員の言「兜の前立ての鍬形（くわがた）からみて、これは鎌倉武士と思われます。見込みの細かい顆粒が黄色っぽく見えるのが特徴です。」
