GIANT FLOWER

It has an attractive appearance with several large flowers at the end of thick, straight stems. 

Amaryllises potted by the entrance of a private home in NISHIOGI. The plant is a horticultural species created based on multi species native to South America. It is said to have been introduced to Japan in the late Edo period (1603-1867).

Incidentally, the flower language of the red amaryllis is “shining beauty.”

巨大輪の花

すっと立ち上がった太い茎の先につく数輪の大きな花の花姿が魅力的です。

西荻の民家の玄関脇に鉢植されている「アマリリス」。南アメリカ原産の複数の原種をもとに作られた園芸種。日本には江戸時代末期ごろ渡来したといわれる。

因みに、赤色の「アマリリス」の花言葉は「輝くほどの美しさ」。
