We were blessed with fine weather and there were quite a few visitors from abroad, making the event very lively.
The 52nd NISHIOGI antique festival was held with 19 participating stores in Iogi hall on April 12, 2025.
Take this statue that is reminiscent of “Kongokai Dainichi Buddha” seated in a lotus position on a lotus throne, for example. According to the exhibitor, this is a wooden ittobori carving, made by a carpenter, not a Buddhist sculptor, and displayed high up in an old house in Kyoto City, so it has become black with soot.
The careful carving of the ninja-like “Chiken-in” hand gesture, which is unique to this type of Dainichi Nyorai and indicates the highest state of enlightenment, is evident in the plump statue.
西荻春の骨董好きまつり2025
好天に恵まれ、外国からのかなりの訪問客もあり大いに賑わいました。
第52回「西荻骨董好きまつり」が、4月12日、19店の出店者を得て井荻會舘で開催されました。
例えば、この蓮華座に結跏趺坐した「金剛界大日如来」を想起させる作品。出店者によれば、これは、木製一刀彫で、仏師ではなく大工さんの作品で、京都市の古い民家の高い所に飾られていたので、煤で黒っぽくなっている、とのこと。
この種の大日如来に特有の、最高の悟りの境地を示す、忍者の手付きのような「智拳印（ちけんいん）」の彫りにも苦心の跡が偲ばれ、ふくよかな像に仕上がっています。
