The life-size Pencil Rocket, previously embedded under the memorial’s frosted glass lid and barely visible, can now be clearly seen.
This monument is located at the southwest entrance of the birthplace of Japanese rockets (currently Momoi Harappa Park), along with the monument marking the birthplace of the former Nakajima Aircraft Engine.
A relief of the Pencil Rocket is attached to the monument with its specifications, such as total length 230 mm, fuselage diameter 18 mm and total mass approximately 200 g.
The successful launch test of this rocket on April 12,1955 became the driving force behind the creation of Japan’s subsequent flagship rockets.
ペンシルロケット現わる
以前、記念碑のガラス製の曇った蓋の下に埋め込まれ、よく見えなかった実物大のペンシルロケットがはっきり見えるようになりました。
日本ロケット発祥の地（現、桃井原っぱ公園）の南西入口に、旧中島飛行機発動機発祥の地の碑とともに設置されている記念碑。ペンシルロケットのレリーフが、全長230㎜、胴体径18㎜、全質量約230ｇ等の諸元とともに取り付けられています。
このロケットによる1955年4月12日の発射実験の成功は、その後の日本の主力ロケットを生み出す原動力となりました。
