A Shinto ritual called “Yabusame” or horseback archery performed in the precincts of Igusa-hachimangu in NISHIOGI; it took place for the first time in five years on October 23,2022.
Yabusame is a kind of equestrian archery in that samurai used this method as training for shooting at three targets with a whistling arrow in quick succession while riding at a gallop in the Kamakura period (1192-1333).
When archers shot 45cm-square boards in half following the style of Ogasawara school, about two thousand spectators loudly cheered the excellent performance.
馬上の妙技
“ウォー”という歓声があちこちで沸き起こりました。
2022年10月23日（日）、西荻の井草八幡宮で5年ぶりに行われた流鏑馬（やぶさめ）神事。
流鏑馬とは、鎌倉時代に武士が馬上で矢継ぎ早に射る練習として、馬を走らせながら鏑矢（かぶらや）で三か所の的を射る騎射の一種です。
45㎝角の板の的を真二つに割る小笠原流の妙技に約2000人の観客は感動の声を上げていました。
