NISHIOGI

This renewed Japanese drum would produce rhythmic sounds when beaten on the occasion of the annual festival in September.

The re-covered drum shown in front of the shed of the sacred portable shrine in Kasuga Shrine in the southern part of NISHIOGI-the front of the drum on right and the back on left-.

The memorial concert had been planned to take place on September 18,2022, but unfortunately, it was cancelled due to heavy rain influenced by the mega Typhoon No.14 that day; therefore, only the musical accompaniment was played on the stage.

The organizers commented,” The bass drum of Kasuga Shrine was first made in the Taisho period (1912-26), and this is the third replacement. It is made of cowhide and 92cm in diameter.”
